Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn has seen progress on his campaign to improve brain cancer care for patients, as the UK government announced new measures.
Goodburn was diagnosed with three inoperable brain tumours two years ago. He made an emotional appeal on BBC Breakfast for more investment in brain cancer research. He then met Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
After the meeting, Burnham announced a new national brain cancer clinical lead. He also promised a review of brain cancer progress and action to help patients get treatment sooner.
Goodburn, 25, thanked the prime minister. He said all three of his requests had been “promised to some extent”, but added that the details still need to be “fleshed out”.
The prime minister described Goodburn as an “inspiration to us all”. He said he was “delighted” to welcome him to Downing Street.
