Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev said the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines will resume operations. He made the remarks during the main session of the 19th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum held in Istanbul.

Dmitriev said: “I have absolutely no doubt that Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 will work again at some point. This is inevitable.”

Energy prices and Europe

Dmitriev drew attention to high energy prices in Europe. He said: “When people in Europe start paying two to three times more for energy, buying energy resources from Russia will become inevitable. Politicians who reject this will lose in every area.”

Economic ties with the US and Europe

Dmitriev said Russia wants to continue economic cooperation with Europe and that the historical ties between the two sides cannot be broken. He said: “I have no doubt that the more agreements we make with the United States, the more European companies will want to join them. They will not want to be left out.”

Dmitriev said European companies are facing high energy costs due to their policy of moving away from Russian energy sources. He said European businesspeople he met at the forum expressed satisfaction with the continuation of dialogue with Russia.

He noted the importance of rebuilding economic relations between Russia and the United States. Dmitriev said cooperation in the trade of diesel fuel and fertilizer has played an important role in this process.

Technology cooperation

Dmitriev said there are opportunities for cooperation in technology between the two countries. He said low electricity costs give Russia an advantage in artificial intelligence and that joint data center projects are on the agenda.
