Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Türkiye, offers a six-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme taught entirely in English. Tuition for the 2026–2027 academic year is USD 45,000 per year. Students who apply through the Global Academia partner route pay USD 33,750 per year, according to the agency's 2026–2027 programme database.
The faculty was founded in 1996 by the Istanbul Education and Culture Foundation (ISTEK) under Turkish Law No. 4142. Yeditepe is a private foundation university regulated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Programme structure
The programme follows the standard Turkish six-year model. It includes three pre-clinical years, two clinical clerkship years and a final internship year. Students begin simulation-based practical training in the pre-clinical years. Structured hospital rotations start in year four and continue full-time through the internship.
Students do not need Turkish to complete the degree. However, Turkish is needed to communicate with patients during clinical training. The faculty offers Turkish language courses alongside the medical curriculum.
Clinical training
Clinical education takes place mainly at Yeditepe University Hospital in Bostancı, Istanbul. The university's network also includes the Bağdat Street polyclinic and the Balmumcu eye hospital.
Accreditation and recognition
The medical programme is accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD). TEPDAD granted the faculty full accreditation in 2014 and renewed it in 2019. TEPDAD is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
Accreditation does not guarantee that a degree is recognised or that a graduate can practise medicine in another country. Recognition decisions are made by each country's education ministry or medical council. Most countries also require foreign graduates to pass a licensing examination, such as USMLE in the United States or PLAB in the United Kingdom, before independent practice. Prospective students should check the requirements of the regulator in the country where they plan to work.
Entry requirements
Most international applicants do not need to take a national entrance examination. Admission is competitive, and places are limited. Turkish medical faculties generally expect at least a 50% equivalent in the national grading system. Biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics results carry more weight.
Qualifications from different countries are assessed separately. O-Level and AS-Level results alone are not accepted. British-curriculum applicants need at least two full A-Levels. Applicants who cannot show sufficient English proficiency may need to complete a one-year English preparatory programme before the first year, which adds a year and a separate fee.
Costs
Tuition at the standard rate totals about USD 270,000 over six years. At the discounted rate of USD 33,750 per year, tuition totals about USD 202,500. Tuition does not cover accommodation, health insurance, residence permit fees, books, equipment or living costs. Fees may change each year, so applicants should confirm the current amount before applying.
Yeditepe is in the higher price range for English-medium medicine in Istanbul. Some other partner universities in the city list lower tuition for the same programme. Costs and discount availability can differ by intake, and scholarships are not guaranteed before an application is assessed.
After an offer
An admission offer is followed by several steps. These include document attestation or equivalency, a student visa from the Turkish consulate in the applicant's country, health insurance and a residence permit after arrival.
